Sony Makes It's Entrance Into The Tablet World

Sony has unveiled it's 2 entries into the tablet market alongside all the other tablets hoping to chip away Apple's 80% tablet market share.

These two tablets are different in many ways. The first tablet the "S1" features the usual tablet form of a 9.4 inch display and has a thick end which tapers to a much thinner end. The "S1" also uses Nvidia's Tegra 2 Dual Core processor which will give it more than enough power to run Android's latest tablet optimized operating system, Honeycomb.

The second tablet, the "S2" features an unusual form factor of a closed clam and when opened reveals 2, 5.5 inch touch screens. Sony say this is a special design for a specialised E-reading experience. Like the "S1" this tablet also uses the Nvidia Tegra 2 chip and also runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb. This is a risky move for Sony as no other company has chosen this E-reader specific design but it could pay off as this tablet features a small form factor which is easy to carry around but has the full functionality of Android Honeycomb and the power of the Tegra 2 chip.

Some features the two tablets share is wireless connectivity via 802.11 b/g/n and will also be available in 3G versions and 4G versions where that service is available. One unique feature for Sony's tablets is that it can act as a remote wirelessly for all Sony devices including music devices, TVs, stereos etc. Other rumours include access to The PlayStation Network which would give Sony a huge sales advantage because it would be the only company to reach out to the gaming market specifically. Overall these tablets offer great specs but will they turn out to be as great as they sound? Well they will be available in the autumn or will it be too late for Sony to catch up with all the other Android competitors, let alone the iPad 2?
